Post by Nick RobertsPost by YesI've been reading the web novel upon which "Death March to the
Parallel World Rhapsody" is based. It's been fun reading. Does
anyone have recommendations for other web novels that were made
into anime and/or manga series? The novel needs to be available as
an English translation, though.
Overlord
Gate
Strike the Blood
Didn't I Say to Make My Abilities Average in the Next Life
Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear
In Another World With My Smartphone
were all light novels before they were anime, and I think all started
off as web novels before being published commercially.
There are almost certainly dozens, if not hundreds of others - light
novel adaptations are one of the primary sources for recent anime.
Note that I'm not necessarily recommending all of those above (just as
I wouldn't have recommended Death March), especially as you haven't
given much of a hint as to the genres that interest you. But Didn't I
Say to Make My Abilities Average has got a number of key features in
common with Death March - in particular, a ridiculously overpowered
isekai hero(ine). Personally, I found Didn't I Say to Make My
Abilities Average much better than Death March (which I only read a
bit of before dropping).
You could also try googling for "Japanese light novels made into
anime" to get lots of "best of" lists.
Thanks, I hadn't thought of that search term. I can't say that I had a
particular genre in mind. I got interested because I was curious about
how the original story (the web novel) differed from the anime and/or
manga. The Death March anime differs quite a bit from the novel, and
the mc was definitely OP. Plus, the novel contains more material than
has been produced as an anime. I'm not saying that's bad, just a
matter of what could be done at the time. I've read part of
"Ascendance of a Bookworm ..." but not sure how I'll proceed. I just
completed reading Death March. I'll probably try Gate next because I
liked the anime and I wonder how the romantic relationships will
develop, if the story in the novel continues past the events in the
anime. World Trigger may be another title I'd read. I like the anime
and was happy to see another season produced.
