Another day, another Isekai. And like all of them the hero is godawful
powerful without even really having done anything. But at least he
doesn't seem to be the harem type considering that he's a Kirby-like blob.

Well... I am not sure what the anime will do with this universe since
they have already made some subtle changes vis a vis the light novel
text. Still, based on the first 3 volumes of the light novel continuity
(the English version of the 4th one is supposed to be out in December --
http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pe.cgi?48412), the protagonist is not
nearly as overpowered as the first 3 anime episodes make him appear. So
far he has been dealing with low level creatures, but it won't last
forever.

I don't want to spoil anything, but... you clearly underestimate light
novel writers!

I might give it a shot if some kind of tension will eventually appear. I'm not really picky, and I like fantasy, but I want to, at least, be able to imagine things going awry.

I just saw a series of light novels where they actually make the Japanese high school students start as level one characters. About time, I'd say. Maybe they'll make that a cartoon sometime.

Wasn't there already an anime with that premise a year or so ago. I remember that the kids came as groups to a fantasy world but the kids remembered nothing of their lives before arriving and didn't have any skills. They had to learn how to wield weapons and so on.

I dropped it after the first episode so I don't know what happened afterwards.

That would be _Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash_
(https://myanimelist.net/anime/31859/Hai_to_Gensou_no_Grimgar), which
was based on the LN series of the same name -- see
http://lndb.info/light_novel/Hai_to_Gensou_no_Grimgal . The first
11 volumes have been translated -- see

Grimgar. They wanted to make fantasy adventures seem unpleasant and soul
destroying and they succeeded or at least they made the show that way.
