Spirited Away car

Hello,

I just watched Spirited Away on DVD, and I noticed the following:

Chihiro's dad car, has the driver wheel in the left side, (seen from the
back seat), instead of being on the right side.

Is there any reason for that?

The other passing cars seem to have the driver's wheel in the correct
position.

Did you notice that the car was an Audi?

According to them, Chihiro's dad is rich enough to buy a German luxury
car. Germans drive on the right side of the road.

More product placement. Look for the Kinokuniya bag as Chihiro gets
thrashed around in the back seat.

Thanks, the link to Miyazaki car in that page, does not tell if the
wheel is in the left or right side, and just for the record,
Miyazaki's licence plate doesn't match Chihiro's dad.

but I think that Audi should also produce cars with the driver's wheel
on the left side, at least for Great Britain.
Found it: Check: http://www.audi.co.jp/models/index.html
In the gallery, it clearly shows models, with the wheel on the right
side, (as seen from the back) which is standard for Japan.

yes, I recall also the KitKat wrapping, and other sorts of bags :-)

In Japan, snobbish people want to have their helm on the left side
as in the original car.

I looked, and everyone I saw had it on the left (as seen from the

I found them, to be on the Roight side, (e.g.:
- click A4, on the left side
- Hover with the mouse, in the picture in the middle,
- The label will change to Interior, an the picture in the left, clearly
shows the wheel on the right,

Here is a direct link, hope it works:

Also at the end, when they were about to leave, the family noticed
all the leaves that had accumulated on the car.
Does this mean time passed in the real world at the same rate as in
the spirit world?
If so, what happens when Chihiro's parents arrive at their new home
and find out that several days (weeks? months?) of their memories are
"missing"?

Whether or not time has elapsed at the same rate is unknown, but there's
no doubt that a significant amount of time has passed, as evident from
the amount of growth that has appeared.

That is left up to your own imagination.

Of the 14 models listed, I only found 2 which had the steering wheel
shown as being on the right--the A4 and the allroad quattro. All of the
other models had them on the left side.

Based in a previous post, it is common (for the Japanese that can afford
it), to have imported cars with the steering wheel on the left side?
Car dealers import both variations, left and right handle cars.
Although driving in Japan in a left handle car isn't convenient,
snobs and purists choose marque's cars that are as close
as originally engineered for its domestic market.

In case of Mercedes-Benz, for instance, much fewer right
handle cars have been sold than left handle cars. Even the
resale value of a right handle car depreciates slightly faster
than a left handle car, as far as I know.

In the UK, LHD cars sell for less than the RHD equivalents. This is
due partly to people prefering RHD, but mostly to it being harder to
drive on UK roads.

Yes, I remember those "Magic Turnaround" things, I wonder who designed

BTW, I read an unfortunate accident a few weeks ago in the
desolate highways of the US southwest (New Mexico?) when a Japanese
tourist in a rental car later admitted temporarily forgetting
he was driving on the wrong side of the road until just on top of
a hill driving right smack into another car, killing the family.
Thats a hell of a thing.
