Rurouni Kenshin 54: Hiten Versus Shukuchi

1) Blood from Kenshin's neck wounds digitally removed as he stands
before the door to Soujirou. (This edit is again inconsistent as the
blood keeps turning up during the subsequent battle.)

2) Shot of Soujirou thrusting his tantou at the head of Okubo in the
flashback shortened.

3) Shishio's wine digitally colored blue. (Kool-Aid in the Meiji
era.)

4) Shot of blood spray across a black screen after Soujirou slices
Kenshin's back cut.

5) Brief shot of Kenshin falling forward under the impact of
Soujirou's strike to his back cut.

6) Shot of Kenshin's foot sliding across the floor over spatters of
his own blood cut.

7) Blood digitally removed from shot of the tip of Soujirou's sword.

8) Senkaku's "I would have been killed by Lord Shishio by now and
drowning all the way down to Hell in a pool of my own blood..."
changed to "I would have been killed by Lord Shishio by now and
drowning all the way down to Hades in a pool of my own sorrow..."

9) Blood spray digitally removed from the back of Senkaku's head as
Soujirou kills him.

10) Rivulet of blood removed from shot of stream following Senkaku's
execution.

11) Red color digitally removed from stream as Senkaku's corpse sits
beside it.

12) Droplets of flying blood digitally removed from Soujirou's next
strike against Kenshin following the Senkaku flashback.

13) Saitou's cigarette digitally changed into a toothpick.

14) Scene of Soujirou getting struck across the face with a bokken in
the flashback shortened to exclude shot of actual impact.

15) Flash shots of sword blade dripping with blood cut from Soujirou's
flashback.

16) Shot of Soujirou standing amidst the corpses of his foster family
shortened.

At this level of editing they are not going to be able to show the
final showdown between Kenshin and Shishio. And next week's episode
is in serious trouble.

That counts as a MAJOR edit, one of the biggest of the series,
since I watched the CN version of the show before reading this edit list
and had NO IDEA that Senkaku had been killed. When Soujiru showed up I
assumed that he was going to kill Senkaku but I didn't see him do
anything. Looks like it's fansub time again...

I thought it was implied by the sound effect, but assumed that CN had
censored the actual killing. Everything surrounding it points to
Soujiro having killed Senkaku (which makes censoring the actual killing
rather pointless...)

I wish that when they moved Kenshin off Toonami they had moved it to
Adult Swim Action. It was getting to the point in the series where it
needed to be moved to ASA because of the rising level of graphic
violence. CN decided to inconsistently and ineptly censor it instead. :(

BTW, I still haven't seen anything on Big O that explains what it is
doing on AS. Even the "Missing Cat" episode isn't that violent compared
to DBZ, Cyborg 009, or Yuyu Hakusho. Why don't they have Kenshin and
Big O trade timeslots and show Kenshin with less editing?

Because Big O 2 is CN's baby,
so of course they'd give it a good timeslot
(the opening act for Adult Swim, usually reserved for comedy).

BTW, I think it's this weekend that Kenshin,
as its upcoming eps are even more gruesome for CN's comfort,
gets moved to Sat 11pm, though since it's still SVES,
with the same Toonami-level editing.
(SVES is to action what Cartoon^2 Fridays is to comedy).

Laters. =)

No kidding. If they won't even show the minor cuts on Kenshin's neck from his
fight with Aoshi, then you are going to have a rough time keeping up with all
the edits from "Kenshin's Greatest Crisis, The Age Chooses Shishio", and
"Revival of a Fighting Spirit, Not out of Luck", just to name a couple.

To Houji's office (or whatever you wish to call it) where Kenshin fough Aoshi.
He then quickly lights up a cig as he watches Aoshi try and regain his
composure.

When I saw this scene I was asking "Huh? What happened? Did Soujirou

what had happened to Senkaku.

That also added to my confusion. Because Senkaku was sitting I thought
he didn't look dead at all. Wouldn't a dead body have fallen over to the side?

Actually corpses can do pretty strange things depending upon what
position the person was in when they died. Senkaku was sitting in
a pretty well balance meditative position when Soujirou struck.
Given that much is made of Soujirou's blinding speed he could have
killed Senkaku without disturbing his position. So long as Senkaku's
balance isn't disturbed he will stay like that until rigor mortis sets in
at
which point the position becomes permanent.
Iirc, Rigor mortis only lasts a few hours, actually. I do not it's not
permament.

Average duration of rigor mortis in summer varied from 10 hours 45
minutes in the eyelids... to 17 hours 7 minutes in the toes, while
in winter its average duration was between 21 hours 24 minutes in
the eyelids... to 28 hours 31 minutes in the toes....

There's not much fighting next week, actually. There's a lot of a kid
getting beating up though. Isn't that a CN no-no, except on AS?
I see. Then instead there will be a lot of "blank-outs". For fights
what I've seen many US censors do is replace the one or two frames that show
the actual impact of a hit with a bright white screen. That white screen has
the appearance of a sudden photo flash. Sounds like next week we're going to
have more blank-outs than we do during happy hour. :-)
