Crunchyroll was accused of being racist for simply translating a
Japanese title into English.
It's about the anime "Kuro-Gyaru ni Natta Kara Shinyu to Yatte Mita",
which was translated into "I Became a Dark-Skinned Gal, So I Tried to
Bang My Best Friend".
The dark-skinned was considered a racist phrase by some people who
read this.
The fact is, these critics did not understand what "kuro gyaru" in
Japan is all about. "Kuro Gyaru" is the newer form of "ganguro" and
describes a cosmetic that women use to apply dark make-up.
Crunchyroll could perhaps have phrased it a little differently, but
the reaction of the self-proclaimed anti-racists is imho exaggerated.
The allegation is based on a primitive association that has not been
questioned.
Btw, this fashion trend is now outdated in Japan, afaik.
