“RErideD: Tokigoe no Derrida” is a new original sci-fi anime that got a lot of advanced publicity because Yoshitoshi Abe is associated with it (as the original character designer) and Takuya Satou is the director. Well, one noticeable absence in any credits that I've seen for “RErideD” is the one for “writer”, and if you watch the first episode you will be convinced beyond a doubt, as I was, that there was no writer present at all.

The first episode is a horrific mess of terrible cliches, extraordinarily heavy handed direction, painfully trite dialog, and voice actors yelling their lines as they chew up all of the scenery. Idiot Plot is much too generous a term for what went on.

The ideas in the show are so overused that the show's title should have been “REtreaD”. And like cheap retread tires, all the “rubber” in the story peeled off pretty much from the start and left an ugly mess at the end of the wreck.

I'm not watching any more. “I won't be back.” My final rating is “F”.

This actually started as an adaption of Heinlein's The Door into Summer
but as production went along they decided they could make a better story
and dropped the license.

If that's true it makes a lot of sense - without the license they stole what they could from "DIS" and then proceeded to make a mess of their own making.

It's been at least 40 years since I read "Door Into Summer". It wasn't my favourite 50's Heinlein novel ("Double Star" is) but I still like the three Kelly Freas covers for the serialization in F&SF in Oct, Nov, & Dec 1956.
