“Katsute Kami Datta Kemono-tachi e”, aka, “To the Abandoned Sacred Beasts” is based upon a manga series by Maybe that started just after Maybe finished “Dusk Maiden of Amnesia”. Maybe actually started two new manga series simultaneously at the end of Dusk Maiden and I felt at the time that he had probably split himself too thinly in doing this. I lost interest in both manga series fairly quickly (the second manga was “Kekkon Yubiwa Monogatari”, an isekai harem fantasy) but I decided to give the first episode of Abandoned a try just in case that the anime team might do something different and better with the story.
Well, the anime team did do something different – they started the anime during the War that is in the past in the manga and only at the very end of the episode does the audience see the opening scene from the manga. However, this change didn’t make things better. The handling of the story in the anime was very clumsy and heavy-handed. There is too much exposition. There is too much overacting. There is no sense of subtlety. In any event, I saw no reason to expect that things will get better so I am dropping the series and my final rating is C.
